TORONTO - Last week, a transphobic and hateful piece of literature was handed out on Bloor West in the riding of Parkdale-High Park. The piece targeted the trans community, and Parkdale-High Park MPP Rev. Dr. Cheri DiNovo.

Last June, Dinovo’s Private Member’s Bill known as ‘Toby’s Law’ was passed and became law in Ontario. The new law extends human rights protections trans people.

“We in Parkdale-High Park, and trans people everywhere, demand an apology from the Family Coalition Party of Ontario and are considering a complaint against them on human rights grounds to the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal,” said MPP DiNovo. “This is a blatant attack on the trans communities and all who care for human rights in Ontario.”

“This is another example of why extending human and social rights to trans people is vitally important. This type of attack upon us as a vulnerable population is nothing more than Story Telling, Myth Making, and Fear Mongering,” said Susan Gapka, chair of the Trans Lobby Group.
